Tried to end my "bible" study, ended up agreeing to go to the Kingdom Hall instead!!!

my jw came over yesterday with a video she wanted to show me, i forget what it was called but it was about the history of the watchtower.normaly i don't have a problem discussing the bible with her, but i just could't sit through this bs video.

i already know the history of the watchtower,.

and it certianly isn't what this video was going to portray.

Earthquakes....

the topic of earthquakes marking the "last days" was brought up with interactions i have had with a few different witnesses.

can someone please explain the exact significance of earthquakes that jw's have?!

can you please also include any links to actual facts that contradict their views of earthquakes.

My mom throws a not so subtle threat my way

my fade is going well, but my mom knows full well what my thoughts are on the wts.

it seems that she feels comfortable just ignoring the situation in order to keep seeing her grandchildren.. the other day however we were talking about someone we know who is making it very difficult for her parents to see their grandchild.. then out of the blue, my mom turns in my direction and says, that if any of her kids try to deny her from seeing her grandchildren, she would take them to court and get a court order to force them to let her see them.. i know what the message was, and it was loud and clear.

she is letting me know that if i get disfellowshipped there's no way i can keep the kids away from her.

On a second thought - it's real simple:

They are YOUR kids; she had her turn in directing traffic when you were HER kid.

Why I Like the "Proclaimers" Book

while it is true that the "proclaimers" book is not always as open and honest about the society's history as it claims to be, it is open and honest enough to bring into question the society claim to being god's organization.

it's a matter of (1) knowing what to look for, (2) where to find it and then, (3) to be able get the sense of what it means.. take for example the extremely important matter of the second coming of christ.... on the top of page 47 the book truthfully explains how president charles russell came to believe that jesus returned invisibly in 1874 to begin his second coming ("invisible presence").

and then a careful reading of the footnote on page 133 shows that the date of jesus' return was not changed to 1914 until 1943.. it is likely that even if some witnesses notice that fact, they do not get the sense of what it means.

@~3:20, David Splane says twice in a 30 second interval that at the time (shortly after Russel's death, but before the appointment of Rutherford i.e. circa 1916) it was EVIDENT that Jehovah had already chosen this organization to continue with the earthly work.

Wait a minute!

Didn't the examination and appointment happen in 1919? By Jesus?

If it was EVIDENT that Jehovah had already chosen the Org in 1916, why did Jesus even bother examining religion in 1919? Did he go against his father's will?

If Jesus somehow misunderstood the will of Jehovah, how can David Splane be so sure about it 100 years later?

Hmmm..go to court? That tends to be expensive, as "only me" pointed above.

They have that kind of cash to throw around? For self-serving purposes? Wouldn't that cash be way more helpful if contributed to the Worldwide Preaching Work?
